Records 2020

  1. U2, Joshua Tree – One of the greats. I first heard it as a radio midnight album while sitting in the Manlius P&C lot. Why was I there at midnight?
  2. Peter Gabriel, So – Gabriel broke it big on this one without, in my mind, selling out. Daniel Lanois' production is impeccably gorgeous.
  3. Bill Bruford, Feels Good To Me – Bruford's first solo album is good, but One Of A Kind, his next, is the best and mercifully had no vocals.
  4. Pat Metheny, From This Place – This will win all the awards. It combines Secret Story, Still Life, and Quartet while also being completely new.
  5. Neil Young, After The Gold Rush – I had this record as a kid and used to spin it all the time. Neil was at the top of his game here.
  6. Pat Metheny w/Charlie Haden & Billy Higgins, Rejoicing – Most ridiculous characterization ever: this is a little too jazzy for me.
  7. Bruce Springsteen, The Wild, The Innocent & The E Street Shuffle – A sophomore album overshadowed by Born To Run which came next.
  8. Stan Getz & Luiz Bonfa, Jazz Samba Encore! – I can't have enough samba or Stan Getz in my life.
  9. Yes, Yesterdays – If you haven't heard Yes's version of Paul Simon's "America," you're missing the best things in life.
