2020 Reading List

  1. Ben Folds, A Dream About Lightning Bugs – Stephanie got me this thinking I might dig an artist's thoughts on craft. She knows what makes me a better man.
  2. Ryan Holiday, Stillness Is The Key – Everything I heard about this book turned out to be true and then some. Incredible and enriching in every way, this is one I'll read again. Soon.
  3. Ann Patchett, The Dutch House – Wow. This is what a novel should be. It took a bit for me to fall into this world but then I was there through to the end. Great book.
  4. Kristina Henson, One Hundred Birds Telling One Hundred Little Stories – My friend wrote a book. It's good. It's just right. And it happens to be beautiful. You should buy a copy.
  5. J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter And The Sorceror's Stone – I can't resist rereading these each year.
  6. J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets – Mostly I read them when I'm feeling down or confused.
  7. J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban – This summer, I was more overwhelmed than anything.
  8. J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire – The new job is great, but I felt too much like an imposter and too confused.
  9. J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter And The Order Of The Phoenix – Reading these this time I took away a lot about seeking without wanting to possess.
  10. J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince – It was about serving without needing to be in control.
  11. J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows – A good epiphany I reached as I was crying over the ending of the series (like always).
  12. Barry Magid, Ending the Pursuit of Happiness: A Zen Guide – A great description of the intersections and overlaps of therapy and Zen. We don't have to pursue so much as accept the world.
  13. Natalie Goldberg, The Great Failure: My Unexpected Path to Truth – A review said this was terrible. One person's take. Mine was one of wonder.
  14. Natalie Goldberg, Let The Whole Thundering World Come Home – Ever feel that you've read the book before? But I couldn't have. But maybe I did? Quick but tough read. She sometimes has the weirdest syntax.
